Overview
About the Department
The Department of Anesthesiology and ICU is central to the functioning of the cardiac operating rooms,
managing patients throughout their surgical journey from hospital admission to the operating theatre and into the intensive care unit.
The department is equipped with modern anesthesia machines and a comprehensive range of medications, with specialized expertise in anesthesia for open-heart surgery and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Protocols, including nerve block techniques, are used to optimize safety and minimize medication risks during surgery.
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The dedicated 18-bed ICU is specifically designed for cardiac and vascular postoperative care. Each bed is equipped with:
- A personal ventilator and monitoring system
- Centralized monitoring for continuous real-time surveillance
The unit also manages critically ill patients with severe heart failure and operates a specialized ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) team for advanced life support.
Our Team & Health Information
The team comprises highly experienced anesthesiologists, many with subspecialty training, supported by well-qualified
operating room and ICU staff.
Anesthesia for cardiac patients is a meticulous process that starts with thorough pre-operative evaluation and continues through intra-operative management and postoperative care in the ICU. In close collaboration with surgeons and cardiologists, the team assesses risk, selects appropriate anesthetic techniques and defines postoperative strategies to ensure safe and comprehensive care until ICU discharge.
