- Interventional cardiology: Coronary angiography, balloon angioplasty, stenting and structural heart interventions performed in modern catheterization laboratories.
- Electrophysiology studies: Advanced diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias using mapping systems, catheter ablation, and device implantation (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT).
- Heart failure management: Optimization of medication, lifestyle guidance and advanced therapies for chronic heart failure.
- Preventive cardiology: Risk-factor assessment, lifestyle modification, medication and patient education to prevent cardiovascular disease.
Education, Training & Accreditation
The department plays a leading role in cardiology education in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Arab world, and is a recognized training center for:

Specialized Units within Adult Cardiology
Adult Cardiology is organized into multiple subspecialized units working in an integrated pathway:
- Interventional Cardiology Unit: Advanced catheter-based diagnosis and treatment of coronary, valvular and peripheral artery disease.
- Echocardiography Unit (TTE, TEE, Stress Echo): Non-invasive imaging to evaluate cardiac structure, function and blood flow.
- Emergency Unit for Acute Cardiac Care: Dedicated area for rapid assessment and treatment of heart attacks, life-threatening arrhythmias, acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock.
- Coronary Care Unit (CCU): Specialized intensive care unit for acute coronary syndromes and high-risk arrhythmias with continuous monitoring.
- Outpatient Cardiology Clinics: Comprehensive consultations, diagnostic testing and long-term follow-up for stable patients.
- Non-Invasive Tests Unit (Holter & Stress ECG): Ambulatory ECG monitoring and exercise testing to detect ischemia and rhythm disturbances.
- Electrophysiology (EP) Unit: State-of-the-art EP laboratory with 3D mapping, performing EP studies, catheter ablation and device implantation.
